Creating A Life of Old

                                                            creating a life of old

I don't know where it started...

Was it when the heavy traffic was starting to bother me? How about when I started watching big corporations take over the world and the media? Was it when we started expecting text messages over hearing someone's voice on the other end of the phone. When it became obvious to buy and listen to E-books instead of visiting the library or borrowing a book from a friend.

  But it happened.

I became so frustrated with modern day society and adjusting to it, that I decided to put my foot down. Now of course, I am no pioneer woman. I am just completely fascinated by the workings of woman of our history.

I don't know if this is you too, but whenever I am driving down streets of houses that all look the same and cars that lack luster I am incredibly stricken bored of it all. There is something so charming about old homes with wrap around porches, the paint so old that it's barely hanging on.

thus I have promised myself a life of old

What does it mean to live a life of old? You know that feeling of nostalgia you get from visiting antique shops and strolling through historical towns? Well that, but providing that comfort to your everyday life.

A life of old is not easy, in-fact some would argue it to be harder than it needs to be in a world of convenience. Why spend all morning rolling and rising bread, or afternoons planning out your next years harvest. There is something unexplainable about creating something with your hands. A feeling I had never truly appreciated until I set my heart to it.

Year 2020 ( The Year of the Virus) I had never felt a tug so hard, I was ready to start my dream of becoming a working class homemaker and planning a homestead. I am becoming less and less concerned with societal standards, and increasingly more focused on a passion of stewardship.

Forgive me, I don't want you to misunderstand. My intention is not to sway you towards my ideals. We all have a story to tell and a way of carrying it out. However if this interests you, I hope to help inspire you along the way.

There were many of days I had wasted, scrolling past pictures of other women living "my dream" and liking the posts, but I never pursued the dream, not even an attempt. I wonder how many of us do the same?

A Small Peek into My Life of Old

Making homemade jams & freshly baked breads

Using less plastic/less waste (lots of jars, burlap, and linen sacks)

Making homemade all purpose cleaner *stored in jars*

Eating as much fresh "local" produce as you can (start your own garden or support local farmers and meat markets)

Hanging freshly cleaned linens out to dry on a sunny day

Shopping for ethical clothing (one day I will learn how to sew haha)

Making beeswax candles *non toxic* (you can even use organic essential oils to scent them)

Burning candlelight for reading and dinning instead of using lamps (dreaming of the perfect hurricane lantern)

Making homemade gifts

Cooking from scratch and inviting friends over

Using wax seals and writing Thank You notes

Spending time out on picnics (hopes to get a bike someday)

Picking fresh flowers and herbs for medicinal purposes and apothecary (or just to add to a little sweet thrifted vase)

Decorating seasonally with herbs, fruits, and scrap fabrics

Wearing more dresses and skirts

I have found myself falling in love with mundane tasks around my home, because we have to do them so often. I don't like feeling bothered by the messes in my home. My home is lived in, and each night I try to tidy it away and create a new atmosphere for the new days to come.

As long as I am not up editing late in the night, I do long for the early morning sun rise in my kitchen. After I make my bed,I start the day by opening the curtains and putting on the kettle. Going for a brisk walk in the park after cooking a fresh batch of homemade biscuits.

At the first of the week, I'll plan out my meals for the week according to season and spend an hour or devotion and meditation. (Meal Planning is NOT EASY) I LOVE doing this, I love sharing all of my recipes for you guys! *Dreaming of making a Food PhotoBook someday*

Since I already partake in so much of what is Social Media, due to my business and my blogging.. I have completely cut out television. Not having a television has given me lots of time to focus on my work with minimal distractions and has given me time to work on my home and crafts.

My favorite book characters have always been strong and educated women that enjoy tending to their homes and families, while keeping theirselves buried in books. I can only hope to lead a life worth living and carry on with simple rhythms that keep me fur-filled.

I hope to always share my photographs and stories for many years to come

still trying to lead a life of old.
