Saying Goodbye to Grayscale?
Ah yes, for many and many years I have been riddled with the case of the blues around late summer almost every year. I think everyone has a little touch of this, and I think it has a lot to do with us being idle in our thoughts in the slow seasons of our busy lives. However, this year in 2020, the year of masked individuality and repetitive somber diary entries...I made a change in my life that opened my eyes.
Growing up in a time where everyone seemingly put themselves in little social boxes, I managed to always find myself hopping around to all of the other boxes and opening them up to peek inside. I guess if anyone would have to have an answer to what box I felt the most comfortable in, the box would be filled with classic poetry, emo hits 2000's playlists, and art that would make you either uncomfortable or at least make you tilt your head sideways.
" We're the Weirdos Mister"
Now, as the years go on and the nostalgia remains I have found myself extremely comfortable with the Grayscale color pallet. In a world where Matte Black exists, you can only imagine how hard that can be on a girl like myself when it comes to decorating my home! It's so sleek and sexy!
BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE A BLACK AND WHITE MOVIE
It all changed when I moved into my tiny cottage. The walls where a darker shade of brown when we first moved in, and everything we previously owned was black and gray. Now while the shade of brown was nice as it was, I decided to make everything match and open things up a little more...We should paint the cottage white! Then we made an even bolder decision to paint an Everglade Green accent wall in our main room.
IT ALL SNOWBALLED FROM THERE
After the green accent wall, came the terracotta accent rug, after the accent rug it became the matching green kitchen cabinets (with gold accents), and then the golden vintage cups in the cabinet, and suddenly I found myself in the bedroom and swapped all the gray and black for beige linen and cinnamon and orange!
TOTAL GAME CHANGER!
Not only did these changes bring life into our home, but it made it such a relaxing place to be and it never made us want to leave! (When you've created that atmosphere in your home, then you've won!)
I remember looking around and thinking how crazy we went with the color changes, but now I felt like my home was in a permanent state of cozy autumn (my favorite time of year)
After a few weeks past, I noticed an incredible difference in my mood. I was so happy looking around at my finished home and everything felt so surreal. The colors around me sparked creative ideas and I even added a few colors to my minimal wardrobe. I had kicked my seasonal depression for the first time in ages. It feels a little silly, knowing all it took was a change in scenery and a little pop of color. However, I am also thankful something so simple can do something so extraordinary.

I encourage you guys to try something you've never done... All it takes is stepping outside of your box.
I know it's comfortable in there, but sometimes it's ok to come up for a breath of fresh air!
